357-M0071B-1R-1,010.000RubbleSerpentinite rubbleRubble of serpentinized harzburgites and some talc-amphibole fragments, within moderately consolidated basement-composition matrix (likely amph, chl; 5Y 5/2) towards the bottom of the section. Angular pieces up to 6cm in size. The talc-amphibole clastsare schistose. Bastite, mostly up to 3mm, serpentinization 100%. Green halos around bastite (late metasomatic event? tc-chl-secondary serp?) that make layers parallel to the main texture.Thin white anostomosing serpentine veins sub parallel to theprefered orientation of the ribbon mesh texture. Below 27cm the rock fragments are enclosed into a sediment that is locally carbonated. Some carbonate sand present (10YR 8/2). Thin section at 12-15cm is serpentinised harzburgite which contained pyroxeneapparently including olivine grains. Veins include second order birefringent ?serpentine. Semi-quant XRD: 13-14cm - liz (48), cchrys (45), mgt (4), 14-15cm - ant (89), tlc (6), mgt (1), ox (1)Structures: Open fractures=0 -- No open fractures; Veins=0 -- No veins; Veins=5 -- >20 per 10cm; Foliation=1 -- Weakly foliatedVeins: Shape=3 --Irregular; Connectivity=1 -- Isolated; Connectivity=8 -- Parallel; Texture=1 -- Massive; Structure=1 -- UniformMinerals: Amphibole; Bastite; Carbonate; Chlorite; Magnetite; Other; Serpentine; Talc
357-M0071B-1R-2,010.590Metamorphic/Fault RockSerpentinized harzburgiteSerpentinized harzburgites with gabbro veins. Serpentinized harzburgite contains bastites and may have some cpx relics. The serpentine mesh is oxided and is dark red in color. The gabbro is very altered into amphibole and chlorite. The contact betweenharzburgite and gabbro is gradual over approximately 1cm with polygonal crystal contacts. White sub-vertical thin veins in serpentinites that are carb with serp (branched with Fe-oxide veins).Structures: Open fractures=0 -- No open fractures; Veins=2 -- 1 - 5 per 10cm; Foliation=0 -- MassiveVeins: Shape=3 --Irregular; Connectivity=1 -- Isolated; Connectivity=3 -- Branched; Texture=1 -- Massive; Structure=2 -- BandedFractures: Morphology=No open fracturesMinerals: Amphibole; Bastite; Carbonate; Chlorite; Clinopyroxene; Hydroxides; Magnetite; Serpentine
357-M0071B-2R-1,011.720RubbleSerpentinite rubbleHighly fractured serpentinized harzburgites. 0-15cm: Angular fragments to 7cm in size; fragments of serp are oxidised. Some pale green serpentine veins in these fragments. 15cm-END: Matrix-supported breccia with angular fragments to 5cm in poorlyconsolidated mud matrix. 22-30cm: Highly fragmented metagabbro, preserved contact with the serp harzburgites. There are other metagabbro pieces at 35cm and 45cm. The metagabbros are highly altered to amphibole and chlorite. They are locally leucocratic. There are some carb-serp veins in the serp clast below 15cm. 53-66cm: MBIO - Checked - Likely serpentinized harzburgite.highlyStructures: Open fractures=0 -- No open fractures; Veins=0 -- No veins; Foliation=0 -- Massive; Gabbro crystal-plastic deformation=0 -- UndeformedVeins: Shape=0 -- No veinsFractures: Morphology=No open fracturesMinerals: Amphibole; Bastite; Carbonate; Chlorite; Hydroxides; Magnetite; Other; Serpentine
357-M0071B-2R-2,012.380RubbleSerpentinite rubbleRubble of serpentinized harburgites. Fragments up to 4cm. 100% serpentinized, patchy alteration in bastite. Mesh texture. There are some white veins into the fragments.Structures: Open fractures=0 -- No open fractures; Veins=0 -- No veins; Foliation=0 -- MassiveVeins: Shape=0 -- No veinsFractures: Morphology=No open fracturesMinerals: Bastite; Magnetite; Other; Serpentine
357-M0071B-3R-1,013.440RubbleSerpentinite rubble0-20 MBIO. Rubble of serpentinized harzburgite with metagabbroic interval. The first fragment (20-22cm) is a serpentinied dunite. Bastite are mostly 2mm in size, 10% modal. The fragments are up to 3cm and a lot of very small fragments, almost sandy. The fragments at 58-63cm show layer of mostly fresh pyroxenite with opx up to 1cm and cpx up to 8mm, some fresh olivine. There are a few white veins (probably serpentine) in some serpentinized harzburgite fragments (38-41cm and 55-57cm).Between 69 and 83cm interval of metagabro. Gabbro is intensively altered to chlorite, amphibole, and secondary plag. Initial size of px mostly about 5mm. One sub-vertical chl vein in metagabbro. At the 83cm the smallest fragments(less than 1cm) are serpentined harzburgite.Veins to be added (Michelle)Structures: Open fractures=0 -- No open fractures; Foliation=0 -- Massive; Gabbro crystal-plastic deformation=0 -- UndeformedFractures: Morphology=No open fracturesMinerals: Amphibole; Bastite; Chlorite; Clinopyroxene; Magnetite; Orthopyroxene; Other; Plagioclase; Serpentine; Olivine
357-M0071B-3R-1,6924.130Metamorphic/Fault RockMetagabbroMetagabbroic interval of solid core. Metagabbro is extensively altered to chlorite, amphibole, and secondary plagioclase. Initial size of px mostly about 5mm. max 7mm.
