Comment:
#Jaeschke et al.. 2007; 14C ages from GeoB 3910-2. depths are correlated based on tuned Ti/Ca ratios (see Table S2).
14C ages, 14C plateaus, and age conversion into calendar ages in three sediment cores from the tropical and subtropical South Atlantic. The ages of plateau boundaries were tuned to the calendar ages of (Suigetsu) atmospheric plateau boundaries. In between, calendar ages were deduced by linear interpolation. Beyond our suite of 14C plateaus 14C ages (marked with a star) were converted using Calib 7.0.4 [Stuiver and Reimer, 1993] with the Marine13 dataset [Reimer et al., 2013] and extrapolating the reservoir age of the next closest 14C plateau up- or downcore (accepting potential errors of this extrapolation). Note that our raw 14C ages were measured in three different 14C laboratories on closely spaced neighbor samples over an interval of almost two decades. Since neighbor ages closely agree, the ages probably reflect true 14C concentrations.
Radiocarbon samples were analyzed at the facility for accelerator mass spectrometry (AMS) of the Leibniz Laboratory, University of Kiel, Germany (KIA numbers), and the Keck Carbon Cycle AMS facility (UCIAMS numbers), University of California, Irvine, USA.
