Comment:
From 1983 until 1989 NOAA-NCEI compiled the NOAA-MMS Marine Minerals Geochemical Database from journal articles, technical reports and unpublished sources from other institutions. At the time it was the most extended data compilation on ferromanganese deposits world wide. Initially published in a proprietary format incompatible with present day standards it was jointly decided by AWI and NOAA to transcribe this legacy data into PANGAEA. This transfer is augmented by a careful checking of the original sources when available and the encoding of ancillary information (sample description, method of analysis...) not present in the NOAA-MMS database.

Description
GULD01-1-7.500-7.00-8.00BuriedMn noduleSeveral0.5-8.0 cm (Typical: 2.0-4.0 cm)SandstoneDusky yellowish-orange very fine grained argillaceous sandstone matrix of the Franson Tongue in the Park City FormationSeveral manganese nodules with an average diameter of 2-4 cm with a range about 0.5 to 8 cm. They are most abundant in the upper part of the sandstone bed. They occur in a variety of shapes, but tend to be spherical. They can be lumped together.
