Measurements were taken every 3 seconds by a data logger (Campbell Scientific Model CR3000) and recorded in 1 minute averages over 23 depths from +0.21 m above the ice surface (upper 21 cm of snow) to -2.20 m below the ice surface.
Carbon dioxide, partial pressurepCO2µatmBrown, Kristina AnneThe mixing ratio of CO2 (xCO2, ppmv) within the sea ice was monitored using in situ peeper gas samplers where xCO2 was determined by circulating the air within the system in a closed loop through a Continuous Automated CO2 Sampler (CACS) system equipped with a LI-820 NDIR gas analyzer (Li-COR Environmental; flow rate = 1 mL/min). The maximum peak height determined by the detector was used to generate sample xCO2. The CACS system was calibrated on-site against CO2 gas standards (1968 ppm and 958 ppm; PRAXAIR) at the start and end of the sampling program.
