Comment:
This data contains measurements taken from both sediment traps and bottle samples, both of which are used to measure the nitrogen flux in a system. To obtain the data, a Knauer-type sediment trap with four replicates was deployed. While following the trap, bottle samples were taken at particular points, and incubated. Three types of incubation were used: simulated in situ (SIS), where the bottle was incubated using an incubator on the deck of the ship in daylight; in situ (IS), where the bottle was incubated by being hung in the water at the appropriate depth; and dark (D), where simulated in situ incubation was done in the dark instead of the daylight. In each case, the bottle was incubated for three hours, and the amount of nitrogen which settled out was measured, as was the total primary production (for daylight hours). The mean and standard deviation were also recorded. When the sediment trap was recovered, the sediment in it was measured to obtain the carbon flux and nitrogen flux (NO3 uptake).
