Slides were prepared in a beaker with a diameter of 10 cm and the area of the microscope field of view used during counting was 0.000356 cm. The Hyalochaete Chaetoceros spp. resting spore (CRS)-free count allows trends of less common, but ecologically important, species to be revealed.
