Merian. Sample treatment at sea: Samples were filtered through a 0.2 µm polycarbonate filter build-in a Teflon filtration rack. After filtration the samples were acidified with HNO3 (700 µl into 550 ml SW), below pH 2. All work was performed under clean air conditions in a clean hood. Measurement: Trace metal concentrations were measured by GF-AAS and a method adopted from Grasshoff et al. (1999).
