Comment:
Mineral abundances: XXX = abundant, XX = present, X = some, tr = trace, - = absent. In bed VI (10 to 15 cm), carbonate-apatite is a raher abundant phase; its abundance increases at 20 to 25 cm and 30 to 35 cm and decreases again at 40 to 45 cn. The abundance of smectite decreases and of quartz increases in this bed from sample (10 to 15 cm) to Wmple (40 to 45 cm). A few samples in beds V and VI contain traces of mixed-layer smectite-illite, not shown in the table.
