Site is located on a shallow terrace at depth near the top of the recent MOW. The location is not far from Gibraltar Strait, and it was chosen to gain a proximal MOW signature. High sedimentation rates of approximately 30 cm/kyr on average also allow the assessment of the MOW endmember properties with high resolution. A conventional gravity core of 5.77 m was taken during R/V METEOR cruise M39/1 in April 1997 (1). This record goes back to the last Glacial Maximum, approximately 18 ka B.P.
